Wolfsgruben Tunnel St. Anton, Austria
Tight time schedule for the Skiing World Championship 2001 met with PERI Systems
The railway line between St. Jakob and St. Anton was increased to two tracks to increase the traffic capacity. The simultaneous movement of the railway station provides more peace and attractiveness in the town. The construction work had to be finished by the start of the Skiing World Championship.
The 1,743 m long Wolfsgruben Tunnel, constructed by the open construction method, alters in width from two to four tracks and the cross-section from a rectangle to a trapezoidal shape. Apart from taking heavy loads (slab thickness 1.20 m) from great heights (10.05 m) this required continual adjustment of slab formwork and falsework.
Standard VARIO units were used for the tunnel walls in the area of the river crossing which were adjusted ideally to a fast turnover. The units were pre-assembled ready for use in heights of 8.40 and 9.00 m, saving valuable site time.

The PERI proposal provided special advantages in time for the slab formwork through: |
fast erection of the MULTIPROP system;
fast, flexible adjustment to changing cross-sections; |
the possibility of moving whole units together with the slab formwork, or in the filler areas with the trolley and winch. |
