Six-lane tunnel near Zwickau in Saxony, Germany

PERI special formwork for monolithic construction

450 m long tunnel for German Federal Road 93 in Mosel near Zwickau - a major site in Saxony.

The tunnel was built below ground and in cuttings. The entrance and exit ramps were constructed in cuttings.

To meet the very tight schedule specified the tunnel was built monolithically in 10 m weekly cycles, ie base, walls and roof slab in a single pour with no joints. This method saved time and shortened the exposed excavation.

The pooled experience of PERI and the contractor Max Bögl (Neumarkt) in construction tunnels and channels monolithically was the decisive factor in the decision to use this efficient "forming machine" that does not require a crane.

The steel formwork weighing a total of 300 t is shifted efficiently with a fully-hydraulic system.
Fixing of wall reinforcement was made much easier by the platforms incorporated in the main beams. The system eliminated expensive platform frames.
The formwork, the stopends split into groups and their supports were moved by remote control.
