Cross of the Third Millennium, Coquimbo, Chile
Targets met in full Perfect climbing
technique and safe cantilevers for a monumental construction
On the occasion of the new millennium the old harbour town of Coquimbo, 500 km north of Santiago de Chile, constructed an incomparably monumental sign, visible from afar. This 92 m high cross on the highest mountain of the town is to help the economical impetus as a pilgrimage and tourist centre. A lift will carry visitors inside the shaft to the top, from where the bay of Coquimbo can be admired.
Apart from the wide range of products the contractor was convinced by the technical experience of PERI in the field of cantilevered construction. In accordance with this, PERI Chile presented an imaginative formwork concept: easily erected ST 100 stacking towers as falsework and HANDSET for the tripod, TRIO on KG climbing brackets for the shaft and HANDSET “one-man panels ” with cantilever equipment on the basis of standard brace frame components for the arms. The planning also provided for the short construction time to be met.
