PERI SKYDECK: Short Shuttering Times,
Less Materials and Best Quality Concrete Surfaces

Extending Allianz’s headquarters building in Munich-Unterföhring involved constructing a longitudinal central structure with seven eastward-facing wings and four pavilions to the south. All building sections contained two basement levels and up to five upper storeys as well as an additional level for service and utility equipment. On a 26,000 m2 site area, the building’s shell was erected to house the underground garage, conference rooms, staff restaurant and offices for about 2,800 employees.

SKYDECK aluminium panel slab formwork was used to create the flat slabs containing high levels of reinforcement as well as part of the sprinkler system. In conjunction with the drophead system, striking of the SKYDECK panels and main beams could be done after only two days – if the cycle planning demanded this. Since the panels automatically align themselves when placed on the SKYDECK main beams, a neat slab view from below together with a clear joint pattern was achieved. The predetermined prop grid ensured that only the required number of props were utilized in the substructure. This resulted in a reduction of the amount of formwork materials and savings in time and labour costs.

The client praised the coordinated and sequenced construction progress as well as the exceptionally high safety and cleanliness on the site during the building of the shell.
