TRIO Column Elements for Variable Cross-Sections
The structure of this housing complex was designed with flat slabs but without beams. For each storey, the vertical elements of the building consist of reinforced concrete core together with reinforced concrete columns of varying cross-section dimension. 20 cm thick core walls and 18 cm thick slabs were constructed dividing the 15 storey building into 66 apartments with a total of 8,000 m².
Using TRIO column elements, construction crews could form the columns of varying dimension very effectively. The necessary adjustments – 5 cm increments, with rectangular or square cross-sections up to a maximum 75 x 75 cm – were easily carried out. Furthermore, additional time was saved through the simple clamping mechanism for fixing the plastic chamfer strip. The contractors were able to achieve high construction standards as well as keeping to the prescribed schedules.
