Residential Facility, St. Petersburg, Russia
Fast Systems Ensure Construction Work Is Done On Schedule in Wintertime
An exclusive residential facility has been constructed in the historic city centre of St. Petersburg near the Smolny Institute and Tauris Palace. Situated between government buildings and various architectural monuments, it consists of eight towers which are connected to each other with glazed walkways. The project was awarded an architectural prize as well as the Golden Diploma in the International Architecture 2003 competition.
Over 30,000 m³ of concrete was used in the 12 month construction time, most of which was carried out during the autumn and winter months. Due to the inner-city location, space was limited which added to the difficulties.
For construction of the various floor heights from 2.40 m in the basement to 3.14 m in the upper storeys, the contractors used TRIO 330. The panel formwork requires only two tie positions for concreting heights up to 3.30 m and also produces a high degree of surface evenness when fast concreting cycles are used (fresh concreting pressure 82.5 kN/m²). Further time saving was achieved when constructing the elevator shafts thanks to the TRIO TSE 330 shaft elements.
The architectural concrete requirements for the columns, with constant cross-section dimensions of 40 x 40 cm, were fulfilled using VARIO column formwork and the MULTIFLEX girder slab formwork saved on crane capacity while producing first-class slab soffits.
