Formwork and Scaffolding Supplied by PERI
Situated very close to the exhibition centre in Riem, the new so-called “StadtQuartier” complex is a showplace for shopping as well as providing space for work, apartments, leisure activities and culture. Surrounded by the attractive outdoor facilities in place for the 2005 national horticultural show, the 120,000 m² multi-functional Riem Arcade is the focal point in this Munich suburb.
A tight schedule was the reason for choosing a combi-construction method consisting of in-situ concreting with pre-cast columns, slabs and beams. The contractor, Walter Bau AG, bridged the lead times required for the planning and production of the pre-cast elements by concreting the stairwell cores as much as possible in advance. A large part of the cores are not standing on the bottom slab but are supported on suspended slabs, which required special formwork and scaffold constructions for concreting to take place.
Walter Bau AG awarded this challenging project to PERI who next to supplying the materials also engineered the formwork and scaffolding solutions. In spite of the tight construction schedule and the complexity of the work involved, high safety standards were required for all aspects of the structural work.

PERI UP reinforcement scaffolding was used throughout the site – for shuttering, fitting of box outs, handling the formwork elements, for reinforcement work, concreting, striking as well as any finishing work necessary. With PERI UP in connection with slab tables and folding platforms, a safety concept was implemented, which successfully prevented any serious accidents on this huge site. Over 300 detailed formwork and scaffolding drawings supported the work on site. The project finished on schedule after 13 months of construction time with the high levels of safety playing an important role throughout. |
