Two Sets of Climbing Formwork for Extremely Fast Construction
VARIO GT 24 and CB Climbing Brackets
About 40 km east of Alexandria, the BG Group – with worldwide operations on five continents – commissioned the construction of a large, liquid gas tank facility. It consists of two circular containers (LNG tanks) with internal diameters of 79 m and 36.70 m high. Up to a height of 6.30 m, the wall thicknesses taper from 90 cm to 65 cm. After this, the thickness remains constant up to a height of 33.70 m. A 3.00 m high and 80 cm wide ring completes the reinforced concrete shell.
The PERI formwork solution was comprised of two complete formwork sets which were designed for a concreting height of 3.34 m. This meant the tanks – each divided into twelve casting segments – could be concreted in an extremely short time. Each formwork set contained 36 internal and 36 external platforms. Each consisted of two external CB 240 climbing brackets and two internal CB 160 climbing brackets. On this, the formwork could be retracted by 75 cm.
High wind loads of up to 150 km/h were taken into consideration during the design of the formwork and climbing units.
