Dry Gravel and Grit Silo, Nüziders, Austria
Construction Time Reduced by 20% TRIO Climbing Formwork for Aggregates Silo
One of Austria´s largest aggregate suppliers, Zech-Kies GmbH, extended its storage capacity with the addition of a new dry gravel and grit silo. Excavation work on the mountain side which backs on to the company''s premises provided the required area for the structure which has a diameter of 75 m and is 22 m high. The reinforced concrete walls are 50 and 100 cm thick and approx. 750 t reinforcement and 8,000 m3 concrete were used in the construction.
PERI planning engineers divided the building work for the cylindrical-shaped reinforced concrete structure into five phases and provided a practical solution in each case. For constructing the 4 m cantilevered slab which runs all the way round the inside of the silo, contractors used a time-saving and movable PD 8 table construction. Climbing formwork units were used for the walls and the alternating sequential method guaranteed the fastest possible construction progress. Trapezoidal- shaped filler timber for the TRIO element joints ensured compliance with the polygonal radii requirements.
The PERI climbing formwork system had an immediate positive effect on the construction progress. The original schedule could be reduced by over 20% and the shell completed in only 3.5 months.
