Lufthansa Administration Building, Frankfurt/Main, Germany
Efficient, quickly assembled PERI UP Rosett scaffold units moved by crane
The new administration complex for the Deutschen Lufthansa AG at Frankfurt Airport is formed by eight modular buildings connected by patios and indoor gardens. Communication and transparency are at the centre of the design by the Dusseldorf architects Ingenhoven, Overdiek und Partner.
A support scaffold, with a max. height of 18.00m, was needed to transfer the loads from the concrete arched roof, cantilevering beyond the skeleton construction, down to ground. Aschaffenburg-based contractors, Adam Hörnig, commissioned formwork and scaffold manufacturers, PERI, to provide a cost-effective scaffold solution.
A solution was conceived using PERI UP Rosett, which, not only acted as the support scaffold but also provided the site with a working scaffold at the top level. This meant that the formwork could be fixed quickly with the workers working from the safety of a fully decked scaffold platform. Firstly, 14.66 m long and 3.00 m wide scaffolds were erected at each end of the building. On completion of the roof slabs, the scaffolds were split into five large units for crane removal, by simply disconnecting a few diagonal braces and ledgers, and moved to the next building.
The very rigid ledger connections on the PERI UP Rosett nodes proved to be particularly advantageous. They provided a high-degree of dimensional stability so that up to 36 standards in one unit could be craned and fitted by the four-man assembly crew. In this way, scaffold work could be integrated perfectly into the schedule so that construction progress continued according to plan.
