Drinking Water Tank, Istanbul, Turkey

Excellent Concrete Finishes
and Sealed Tie Positions in Drinking Water Area

The second phase of the water supply modernisation project in the Istanbul suburb of Sile-Agva, required the building of numerous structures. The largest of these was to be used as a tank which supplied drinking water to local residents by means of a 50 km long network.

For the construction of the 27 m high, cylindrical-shaped reinforced concrete tank, changing wall thicknesses had to be taken into consideration. The external diameter remained constant whilst the internal diameter varied from 16.20 m below up to 14.20 m in the last cycle.

PERI Istanbul designed a customised formwork solution with VARIO GT 24 on the outside as well as RUNDFLEX circular formwork internally. This resulted in the contractors achieving a regular 4-day-cycle for constructing 2.40 m high concreting steps.

The DK sealing cones proved to be an advantage for closing the carefully positioned tie positions. The cones could be fixed with a minimum of effort and are permanently watertight.
