Underground Multi-Level Car Park, Fulda, Germany
Efficient Construction with Slab Tables and Incremental Castings
This three-level underground garage site is situated directly in the city centre, between the castle and university and provides parking facilities for around 300 cars. When building work was finished, the structure was completely covered and the Heertorplatz bus station was created on the area above ground.
Garage building work was carried out using the so-called Anselment method – groined vault slab construction with haunched beams, large spans and varying slab thicknesses. The basis for efficient construction progress was the incremental casting method.
At intervals of two weeks PERI supplied a 5.80 m wide and 30 m long axis of customized slab tables for each of the three levels. These were delivered pre-assembled, matching the site requirements exactly. Each level consisted of 16 axes. Concreting was done in weekly cycles, which enabled the contractors to meet the planned schedule.
