Access Ramp for Multi-Storey Parking Garage, Philadelphia Airport, USA
Efficient Table Solution Roadway, Beams and Parapets in One Pour
Due to an increase in the number of passengers and resulting limited parking capacity, the construction of a new, multi-storey parking garage was needed at Philadelphia airport. The individual parking levels are reached using a two-lane access ramp which has a total of seven 360° turns. Each storey has integrated entrance and exit ramps.
As the road slab for the ramp was to be concreted together with the thick edge beams and radial parapet slabs in one pour, PERI provided a combination of MULTIPROP slab tables for supporting the carriageway slab and UNIPORTAL tables for the edges. UNIPORTAL edge tables were used as the formwork bottom for the edge beams and the parapets which were formed with RUNDFLEX circular formwork. The cantilever allowed the assembly of ties with protection provided by laterally-mounted safety barriers fixed in position using handrail holders. After concreting, the pre-assembled edge tables were lowered by means of MULTIPROP props. With the help of a lifting fork, the tables could be moved out over the parapets, after folding up the MULTIPROP props, and then lifted by crane to the next floor.

Jim Nicholson Site Manager “PERI provided a very cost-effective table solution for the complicated ramp geometry. Due to the high labour costs involved, using a conventional formwork construction assembled by us on-site was totally out of the question.”
